Upgrading the BIOS
Periodically, Compsee, Inc. may offer or suggest that you upgrade
the Apex PDT BIOS to a newer version. Two methods are
available for performing BIOS upgrades:
q
Uploading the new BIOS data from a PC using the RS-232
serial port or IR interface (through the Dock)
q
Uploading the new BIOS data to the Apex PDT through the
PC Card slot via a BIOS Upgrade Flash card (can be
purchased pre-configured from Compsee, Inc.).
As Apex PDT BIOS upgrade configurations become available, they
will be posted on the Compsee, Inc. website (
www.compsee.com )
as a download, or on CD or 3.5 inch floppy disk by request.
BIOS Upgrading Using A Serial Connection
Upgrading the Apex PDT BIOS may be accomplished by using the
[flashit.exe] utility pre-loaded in the BIN directory of the unit.
When using flashit , either the RS-232 Serial Port or the IR Port may
be utilized to communicate with the Apex PDT. Refer to the Utility
Programs section of this manual for detailed instructions on using
this utility.
BIOS Upgrading Using A PC Card
BIOS upgrades are available from Compsee, Inc. on a pre-
configured BIOS Flash card. Using this method precludes
connecting the Apex PDT to a PC since the card automatically
boots once the Apex PDT has been properly configured. To
accomplish this form of BIOS upgrade use the following procedure:
1. Verify that the Apex PDT has been fully turned OFF (not
just in the Suspend mode) by pressing the <FN> + <Power>
keys.
2. Loosen and remove the four End Cap mounting screws using
a Phillips screwdriver.
3. Remove the End Cap from the unit.
4. Position DIP Switch 3 to the ON position (normally OFF).
A small jeweler’s screwdriver works well for this purpose.
