10 POWER MANAGEMENT
Power Management within the Apex PDT is accomplished by
changing BIOS settings so that power usage is kept to a minimum
during normal day to day operations. By minimizing the time that
heavy power consuming functions are active, you can prolong the
total usage time of the unit during each Battery Pack charge cycle
(the time it takes to go from fully charged to fully discharged).
Power State Transitions
Within the BIOS Power Management framework are several
features that allow you to minimize the Apex PDT’s power
consumption. The Apex PDT’s Power saving features are as
follows:
q
Low Speed Timeout
q
Standby Timeout
q
Suspend Timeout
All of these features can be disabled simultaneously or configured
separately as the customer requires. When all of the BIOS Power
saving features are disabled, the power usage from the Battery Pack
will be at its highest level, and the Battery Pack’s charge will
dissipate more quickly.
Functional Definitions
q
Full On:
The system goes through the reset and initialization
process and loads the operating system and any other
programs called for by the
[config.sys]
and
[autoexec.bat]
files. The system is running at 33 MHz, no power
management functions are enabled, and all devices are ON.
q
Power Management (PM) Enabled State:
The system is in
a power saving capacity with some system functions disabled
after a specified period of time to conserve system power
consumption and Battery Pack drain.
q
High Speed Mode:
All parts of the system are clocked at
full speed when in the High Speed Mode.
