9 APEX PDT COMMUNICATIONS
Introduction
Communications with the Apex PDT can be accomplished by using
three connection methods:
q From the PC serial port to the Dock using the Apex PDT
Infrared (IR) Port.
q From the PC serial port to the optional Serial End Cap.
q From the PC serial port to the internal RS-232 connector
(located behind the Apex PDT End Cap).
The use preference order is as listed. Using any of the three listed
methods will allow communication with the Apex PDT to occur.
Note that proper cabling is necessary to perform these methods and
may be obtained from Compsee, Inc. or an authorized VAR.
Communications Using The IR Port
To accomplish serial communications using the Apex III Infrared
(IR) Port, you must have purchased the optional Apex III Dock (see
illustration). The Dock is constructed to align the Apex III’s IR
Window with the Dock’s IR interface when the unit is in the
cradled position. The PC is then connected to the Dock through a
special serial interface cable (the same cable used for serial
communications with the Serial End Cap). Refer to the following
notes for IR specific communications information.

Notes:
1. The [ir.com] utility must be enabled to use the IR port for
communications. Once the IR port has been enabled, the
communications process is conducted the same as with the
RS-232 serial port.
