Compsee BIOS Extender
[cbe.exe]
[cbe.exe]
provides several useful extensions to BIOS functions in
the Compsee Apex device. These are focused in two main areas:
q
Keyboard enhancements specific to the Apex PDT design
q
Advanced Power Management (APM) enhancements
CBE is provided as a DOS TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident)
program. Once loaded, its functions are available until unloaded. It
can only be unloaded if it is the last TSR loaded. In most
environments this will not be the case. It presently requires about
15K of memory. This may change in future releases.
CBE is usually loaded from the
autoexec.bat
file as a part of system
startup. It may also be run at the DOS command line prompt. It
must be loaded after the
[power.exe]
APM driver is loaded. CBE
will provide reduced functionality if
[power.exe]
is not loaded prior
to loading
[cbe.exe]
.
Function Keys:
Battery % Charge:
When <Fn> + <B> (“function B”) is pressed, the current state of the
battery pack is displayed as a percentage of full charge. First
pressing the green <FN> key and then simultaneously pressing the
<B> key activate this function. The function is not case sensitive,
either “b” or “B” will work the same manner. The percent of
charge remaining is displayed as long as the key combination is
held down.
Note:
Not all Apex PDT Battery Packs are capable of can
providing this information to the software. If a Battery
Pack is incapable of supplying this information, the
message “Device error” will be displayed.
Date and Time
When <Fn> +<T> (pronounced “function T”) is pressed, the current
date and time as indicated by the Apex’s internal real-time clock
(RTC) is displayed. Pressing first the green <FN> key and then
simultaneously pressing the <T> key activate this function. This
function is not case sensitive, either “t” or “T” work the same way.
The date and time are displayed as long as the key combination is
held down. Other <Fn> key combinations are handled internally by
the BIOS and will operate with or without the CBE program loaded.
