Display
The Apex PDT is capable of displaying information using four (4)
different font sizes (8

8, 16

16, and 16

16). By utilizing
the various methods described in this section, a programmer can
specifically tailor the informational display for the benefit of the
end user.
The Apex PDT Display Screen functions in standard CGA modes 0
through 6 and is capable of black, white, and shades of gray. A
programmer can use the normal font (8
×
8) or change to the 16
×
8
font by changing the video mode as indicated in Table 3-2.
Furthermore, the font height can be doubled to produce two new
font sizes (8
×
16 and 16
×
16) by utilizing the additional CGA
features incorporated into the unit. For a detailed description of this
operation, refer to the Font Height Adjustments and Font Display
Illustrations sections on the following pages.

Since the Apex PDT Display Screen is a Liquid Crystal Display
(LCD) it is not subject to “image burn” like a Cathode Ray Tube
(CRT).
The BIOS data area will indicate to an asking application program
the visible screen size being utilized. The visible display is mapped
to the upper, left-hand corner of the virtual display. Because of the
screen's physical size, the full virtual area is not viewable within the
display area.
