Buffers & Channels
Active frame
buffer or
buffer
The frame buffer (
1
,
2
, or
3
) in which you are currently
working.
The active buffer and its assignment are specified in the
Status Area on the Message Compose main menu as
Buffer: n X AIR
or
Buffer: n PREVIEW
, where
n
des-
ignates the buffer number, and
X
designates CHANNEL A
or CHANNEL B. If a buffer is assigned only to PREVIEW,
no channel letter is displayed. If a buffer is assigned to
CHANNEL X and to PREVIEW, the active status is dis-
played as
Buffer: n X/PREVIEW
.
Background
RAM
A scanline background (§10.5) can be created in Back-
ground RAM. There are two Background RAM’s: the AIR
Background RAM, which can be mixed with CHANNELS A
and/or B; and the PREVIEW Background RAM, which can
be mixed with PREVIEW.
CHANNELS A
and B
A frame buffer can be assigned to output to CHANNEL A
and/or CHANNEL B. The Output Percentage level of each
channel can be independently set. The output of these
channels are then sent to a mixer which can mix in a scan-
line background created in AIR Background RAM (§10.5)
or the output of PREVIEW(§16.11). The output of this
mixer becomes the AIR CHANNEL.
PREVIEW
A frame buffer can be assigned to PREVIEW. The Output
Percentage level of this channel is set to 100% opaque
and cannot be changed. The output of PREVIEW is then
sent to a mixer, which can mix in a scanline background
created in PREVIEW Background RAM (§10.5). The out-
put of this mixer becomes the PREVIEW CHANNEL.
AIR
CHANNEL
The output of the mix of CHANNELS A and/or B, and/or
the AIR Background RAM or PREVIEW. This signal
leaves the CHYRON chassis from the CHANNEL 1 con-
nectors.
PREVIEW
CHANNEL
The output of PREVIEW and/or the PREVIEW Back-
ground RAM. This signal leaves the CHYRON chassis
from the CHANNEL 2 connectors.
