Function Keys are versatile tools that enable you to pro-
gram a sequence of commands, which can then be exe-
cuted by one keystroke, or by activating a switch on a
General Purpose Interface (GPI). See Section 2, §2.5 on
page 2-19 for more information on the GPI.
For example, a Function Key can be programmed to type
a message across the screen, in a particular color, and
using a particular font. Or, it can trigger a DDR clip or
Multiple Effects....or all of the above and more!
A Function Key list can be created and edited from
within the Message Compose main menu, or the IMAG-
ESTOR! main menu. The procedure is identical for both.
In addition, a Function Key readable and executable by
the IMAGESTOR! Recall Keyboard can be created and
edited from either Message Compose or IMAGESTOR!
Note that the Function Key list cannot be created or
edited from the Recall Keyboard. See §12.7 in this sec-
tion or §11.7 in the IMAGESTOR! Option Handbook
(Pub. No. 2A01987) for information on this feature.

The five Function Keys on the system keyboard actually
work as ten keys. Holding down the
SHIFT
key while
pressing F1 , F2 , F3 , F4 , or F5 activates F6 , F7 , F8 , F9 , or
F10
respectively.
You can assign a sequence of up to
500
keystrokes to
each Function Key. If more steps are needed, a second
Function Key can be programmed to run as part of the
first Function Key sequence. The sequence can be
recorded and read back, and subsequently executed. A
Function Key can also be executed one step at a time, to
aid trouble-shooting.
