There may be times when the external source operator
needs to know exactly what has been displayed on the
iNFiNiT! system. For example, if a Serial Crawl has
been interrupted by a commercial, it can be restarted
exactly where it left off. This feedback function is
known as echoing. To echo crawling characters:
• Send decimal

followed by decimal

.
The Crawl echoes the same decimal value originally sent
when the character begins to crawl. This occurs when the
first pixel of the character is displayed on the screen. If
Crawl is terminated, it can be restarted with that character.
NOTE
Speed changes and other control
codes are not echoed.
If you use the Message Compose ALT
key sequence to type a character
such as an international character,
the ALT code is not echoed. Only the
decimal value itself is echoed.
If the echo command is sent, a warning is issued if an
underflow is about to occur. When there are less than
360 pixels left to crawl, a bell character (decimal
7
) is
sent to warn of the underflow. The bell indicates that the
next buffer is not full, meaning that it could be could be
empty or nearly full. The underflow can be avoided by
sending enough characters to fill the next buffer. There-
fore to insure that an underflow does not occur, send 720
pixels worth of data immediately after the first bell is
detected.
