Connecting the Interface Cable and Lock
The interface cable connects the Macintosh to the Expansion Chassis. The cable
lock holds the Expansion Chassis interface card and interface cable together,
ensuring that the cable attaches properly to the interface card. To connect the
interface cable and lock:
1. Shut down the Macintosh.
2. Locate the two notches or indentations on the interface cable. Line up these
notches with the notches in the connector on the interface card (see Figure 22).
You’ll need to orient the notches so that they face:
•
Up for a Power Macintosh 8100
•
Left for a Quadra 650
•
Down for a Quadra 900/950

3. Guide the interface cable through the appropriate opening in the back of the
Macintosh.
4. Securely connect the interface cable to the connector on the interface card. Be
careful to avoid damaging the connectors on the interface card or interface
cable by forcing the connection.
✍
The connectors on the interface cable and the interface card fit very tightly together.
You’ll need to apply enough pressure to completely seat the connectors. You may also
need to hold the interface card in place while you are connecting the cable.
