Glossary
Additive Color Theory
A color theory based on red, blue, and green (RGB) primary light
waves. The addition (thus the term “additive”) of these three colors
together in equal amounts equals white light. By mixing the
amounts, you can produce all other colors. Monitors and scanners
use the additive color theory.
APD File
Aldus Printer Description file. A special file providing printer or
controller specific information used by some applications (such as
Adobe PageMaker).
AppleTalk Network
In the context of this manual, multiple computers and/or peripheral
devices which are connected and adhere to the AppleTalk
communication protocol.
Application Software
Any software program, such as a desktop publishing program, word
processing program, graphics program, or any program that is
installed in your computer system.
Banding
Stripes that appear where shades change in gradient printing. The
smaller and more frequent the steps between shades, the less banding
occurs.
Baud Rate
The speed, or data transfer rate (bits per second), at which data is
transmitted between computer devices using a serial interface.
Bitmapped Image
An image made up of small dots placed on a grid to form the outline
and then filled within the outline. Bit mapped images are often rough
and jagged around the edges because of working within a set grid.
