Separation Settings for Glossy Media

Separation Settings for Absorbent Media

Fig. 8.38  Recommended Separation Settings

The separation settings allow you to control the type of separation,
the black generation, the black ink limit, the total ink limit and the
undercover removal (UCR) percentage. Our recommended settings
(fig. 8.38) work well for most jobs.

Because inks are never pure, if you mix cyan, yellow and magenta
you get a muddy rather than true black. You compensate for this by
adjusting the following separation settings.

Separation Type—UCR adds black ink to emphasis shadow and
neutral color areas. GCR (gray component replacement) does the
same thing over a wider color range. Usually this choice depends on
the media and with which setting your print shop is the most
proficient. However, we strongly recommend using UCR for the
best results.
