12.1 Protection against brief power failures
For a drop in the line-side supply voltage, the SITOP PSU8600 power supply system still
maintains the output voltage for a short time in the millisecond range (see Chapter Technical
data (Page 227)).
For line supplies that manifest frequent brief voltage dips, in order to increase the power
supply reliability, it may make sense to increase the line buffering time in the device using an
additional buffer component.
The SITOP BUF8600 buffer module stores energy using electrolytic capacitors or double-
layer capacitors - and allows the buffer time to be extended for power failures. The power
supply system is integrated using an integrated connecting plug. A maximum of two buffer
modules can be used within a system. For brief power failures, the outputs of the power
supply system are supplied without interruption using the energy stored in the buffer module.
Depending on the type, for completely charged buffer modules, power failures of 100 ms,
300 ms, 4 s or 10 s for a load current of 40 A can be buffered; longer buffer times can be
implemented using a second buffer module. The buffer time is correspondingly increased for
lower load currents.
