Die entsprechende Kennzeichnung ist auf der
Reifenseitenwand ersichtlich.
Das Anbringen eines entsprechenden Aufkle-
bers im Blickfeld des Fahrers ist vorgeschrie-
ben.
Winnterreifen verlieren bei einer Profiltiefe un-
ter 4 mm ihre Tauglichkeit.
Reifendruckkontrollsystem (RDK)
Der Reifenluftdruck wird mit einem Kontrollsy-
stem überwacht, das
• genauer und zuverlässiger den korrekten
Reifenluftdruck überwacht als jeder Druck-
prüfer im Bordwerkzeug, an der Tankstelle
oder in der Werkstatt,
• den Einfluß der Temperatur auf den Reifen-
luftdruck automatisch berücksichtigt. (Ein-
fluß auf die Temperatur im Reifen haben
Fahrweise, Zuladung, Fahrgeschwindigkeit,
Außentemperatur, Sonneneinstrahlung und
Abstrahlung der Motorwärme),
• einwandfreies Fahrverhalten und niedrigen
Kraftstoffverbrauch durch korrekten Reifen-
luftdruck sichert,
• Reifenvorschädigung und erhöhten Profil-
verschleiß durch zu niedrigen Luftdruck zu
verhindern hilft.
Bei eingeschalteter Zündung leuchtet zur
Lampenkontrolle die Warnleuchte im Kombiin-
strument. Sie erlischt sobald der Motor ge-
startet wird. Nach ca. 20 Metern Fahrstrecke
mit einer Mindestgeschwindigkeit von 5 km/h
beginnt die automatische Reifenluftdruckkon-
trolle.
Das Reifendruckkontrollsystem berücksichtigt
den Einfluß der Reifentemperatur auf den
Reifenluftdruck. Trotzdem kann es vorkom-
men, daß nur in einem bestimmten Fahrzu-
stand der dort benötigte Solldruck unterschrit-
ten ist.
Funktion
Der Reifenluftdruck eines jeden Rades wird
über zwei im Rad eingebaute Druckschalter
überwacht. Wenn der Luftdruck im Reifen unter
den im Druckschalter vorgegebenen Solldruck
absinkt oder wenn ein Fehler im RDK-System
vorliegt, erscheint in den Anzeigefeldern des
Kombiinstrumentes die jeweilige Störungsanzeige.
Die Störungsanzeige muß also nicht unbe-
dingt sofort nach dem Losfahren auftreten.
Sie kann eventuell, ohne daß der Druck er-
höht wurde, nach dem Ausschalten der Zün-
dung und einer erneuten Fahrt ausbleiben,
wenn derselbe Betriebszustand nicht wieder
aufgetreten ist. Trotzdem ist der Druck zu
niedrig für eine bestimmte Kombination von
Temperatur und Geschwindigkeit, d.h. für eine
bestimmte Fahrsituation.

Do not exceed the maximum speed limit (e.g.,
160 km/h for M+S [Q] radial tyres, or 190
km/h for M+S [T] radial tyres or 210 km/h for
M+S [H] radial tyres).
The corresponding designation is marked on
the tyre sidewall.
A corresponding sticker must be placed in the
driver's field of vision.
Winter tyres lose their effectiveness if the
tread depth goes below 4 mm.
Tyre Pressure Warning System
The tyre pressures are monitored by a warn-
ing system that
• monitors correct tyre pressure more pre-
cisely and reliably than any tyre-pressure
gauge in the tool kit, at a service centre or
workshop,
• takes the effect of temperature on tyre
pressure into account. (Style of driving,
load, roadspeed, outside temperature, sun-
light and the heat radiated by the engine
affect the temperature of the air in the
tyres),
• assures excellent handling and low fuel
consumption by correct tyre pressures,
• helps prevent incipient tyre damage and in-
creased tread wear due to low tyre press-
ures.
When the ignition is switched on, the warning
light in the instrument cluster comes on as a
check. The light goes out as soon as the en-
gine is started. Automatic tyre-pressure moni-
toring begins once a distance of approx. 20
metres has been covered at a speed of at
least 5 km/h (3 mph).
The tyre Pressure warning system takes the
effect of tyre temperature on tyre pressure
into account. Nevertheless, it is possible that
the pressure in the tyre may not be as high
as the pressure required for a given driving
situation.
Method of operation
Two pressure-operated switches in each
wheel monitor the tyre pressures. If the press-
ure in the tyre drops beneath the trip pressure
to which the switches are set or if there is a
malfunction in the system, a corresponding
message appears in the display in the instru-
ment cluster.
Therefore, the system may not issue a warn-
ing immediately after the car pulls away. Even
if the tyre pressure is not corrected, the warn-
ing may not be repeated after the ignition has
been switched off and the car restarted, if the
same conditions do not re-occur. Neverthe-
less, the pressure is too low for a particular
combination of speed and temperature, in
other words, for a particular driving situation.
