Power Control Switch Configurations
The CPC324 offers the following types of power control on the blade:
•
Option override - blade powers up regardless of any other option settings
•
ISM power control
•
IPMC power control
Option Override
Setting switch SW1-2 to the ON position forces the blade to power up regardless of any other
option settings. This switch is normally in the OFF position.
ISM Power Control
In many CompactPCI installations the Intelligent Shelf Manager (ISM), which is external to the
blade, controls blade power by use of the CompactPCI signal BD-SEL# (connector J1, pin
D15). When asserted (logical 0), BD-SEL# forces the blade to power up. Alternatively, this
signal may be connected to a permanent logical level on the backplane. When BD-SEL# is
asserted, the blade powers up and remains powered up.
IPMC Power Control
Intelligent Peripheral Management Controller (IPMC) control of power is enabled when SW3-4
is ON. The IPMC then controls when power is applied to the blade. Note that this control is
overridden by setting SW1-2 to ON or by asserting BD-SEL#. For IPMC power control to
operate properly SW1-2 must be OFF and the BD-SEL# signal must be at logical high. The
Intelligent Peripheral Management Controller is described in the section
“Zircon UL Peripheral
Monitor” on page 44
.
Push-button Reset
SW6
is a push-button RESET switch, accessible from the front panel, shown in
Figure 3-2
below. It generates !SYS_RESET_N, which is equivalent to the power-up reset generated by
the DS1233A micro monitor.
