15.18 Setting the plunger

Make sure that the plunger moves freely and does not scrub against the fixed scrapers in the
channel bottom and below the knotter table.
ü The machine is shut down and safeguarded, refer to page 25 .

Turn the flywheel in working direction ( refer to page 111 ) and move the plunger once
completely to the rear and front. In doing so, watch dimension X relative to the bale channel
(2).

If the dimesion measures X=1-2 mm at the narrowest point during the whole movement, the
setting is correct.

If the dimesion measures X=1-2 mm at the narrowest point during the whole movement, the
plunger must be aligned.
Aligning the plunger

Turn the flywheel in working direction ( refer to page 111 ) and move the plunger (1) to the
frontmost positon.
„ Applying the flywheel brake, refer to page 89 .

Lifting twine boxes, refer to page 91 .

Remove the plate (3).

Loosen the slide discs (4).
If dimension X<1–2 mm
„
Put shims (5) between the plunger (1) and the slide discs (4).
„ Tighten the slide discs (4).
If dimension X>1–2 mm
„ Remove shims (5) between the plunger (1) and the slide discs (4).
„
Tighten the slide discs (4).
„ Release the flywheel brake, refer to page 89 .
„
Turn the flywheel in working direction ( refer to page 111 ) and move the plunger once
completely to the rear and front. In doing so, watch dimension X relative to the bale channel
(2).

If the dimesion does not measure X=1–2 mm at the narrowest point during the whole
movement, the process must be repeated until the dimension measures X=1-2 mm at the
narrowest point of the bale channel.
