b. Set S2 to select standalone or multiple unit operation.
c. Set S1 with valid GPIB address from 0 to 30.
CAUTION: DO NOT repeatedly toggle the circuit breaker/switch as this may damage the
unit.
2. Set POWER ON/OFF circuit breaker/switch (1, Figure 3-1) on front panel to ON. If actuator
does not lock when released, wait a few seconds before trying again. The circuit breaker is
“trip-free” design; if overload exists, contacts cannot be held closed by actuator.
3. Unit performs self-test upon power-up initialization. If the unit passes self-test, the
POWER/FAULT/LIMIT light turns green and the unit is ready for operation; if it fails, the light
turns red.
3.3.3
VOLTAGE AND CURRENT PARAMETERS
Table 3-2 defines the voltage and current parameters used in this manual and provides refer-
ences to the SCPI commands and queries associated with the parameter.
3.3.4
VOLTAGE/CURRENT PROTECT SETTINGS
These values are the references for the complementary channels: voltage in current mode and
current in voltage mode. The range for these values is between a minimum (box) value (see Fig-
ure 1-3) and 1% above the rated nominal value (see PAR. 3.3.5). If the unit is in voltage mode, it
will enter current protect mode when the load demands more current and energy than permitted
by the ±current protect settings. Similarly, if the unit is in current mode, it will enter voltage pro-
tect mode if the load demands more voltage and energy than permitted by the ±voltage protect
settings. When the protect settings are exceeded, the protection channel limits the output cur-
rent or voltage, the POWER/FAULT/LIMIT LED lights orange (LIMIT), and the power supply
continues operation in the complementary mode of operation.
The BOP can be configured to program the protection settings using either a single command to
set both protection channels to the same value, or separate commands that independently con-
trol positive and negative protections.
CURR:PROT (see PAR. B.29) sets both positive and negative current protections to the same
value. Note that the CURR command, when sent to a unit operating in voltage mode, also sets
both positive and negative current protections to the same value as set by CURR.
VOLT:PROT (see PAR. B.96) set both positive and negative voltage protections to the same
value. The VOLT command, when sent to a unit operating in current mode, also sets both posi-
tive and negative voltage protections to the same value as set by VOLT.
CURR:PROT:POS (see PAR. B.35) and CURR:PROT:NEG (see PAR. B.33) are used to pro-
gram independent settings for positive and negative current protection, respectively.
VOLT:PROT:POS (see PAR. B.102) and VOLT:PROT:NEG (see PAR. B.100) are used to pro-
gram independent settings for positive and negative voltage protection, respectively.
3.3.4.1
HIDDEN VOLTAGE AND CURRENT PROTECT LIMITS
The BOP employs two back-up channels which function as safety backups if a main channel
fails. The backup channel limits are fixed and not user accessible. These limits are set to 5%
over the nominal (rated) values for voltage or current. If the software limits for a main channel is
