8 MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION
8.21 INSPECTING BLADES _________________________________________________
Inspect the blades in accordance with the maintenance chart or when the cutting unit is removed from the mower,
carefully inspect the blades to make sure the blades are in good condition. Replace any blade that has bends,
grooves, cracked or blunt.
8.22 SHARPENING BLADES ________________________________________________
Do not attempt to sharpen the HM600 flail blades as this could result in an unbalanced rotor that will cause
accelerated wear and increased vibration.
8.23 BELT ADJUSTMENT ___________________________________________________
1. Start the engine and lower all three cutting units to the
ground. Turn off engine and remove the ignition key.
2. Using a 13mm spanner remove the two bolts and washers
(A) from the top and bottom of the belt cover (Do not
discard).
3. Remove belt cover (B).
4. Visually inspect the belt for any damage or wear.
5. Using a 17mm spanner loosen the motor mount nuts (C),
do not remove.
6. To tighten the belt use a 19mm spanner turn the belt adjust
-
ing nut (D) in a clockwise direction, the V-belt must not
have a deflection of more than 10mm when a 6 kg force
has been applied to the belt.
7. Using a 17mm spanner tighten then torque the motor
mount nuts (C) to 48 Nm (35 lb ft).
8. Install belt cover and secure in place with all four bolts and
washers (A) from instruction two and tighten to 24 Nm (17.7
lb ft).
9. Repeat instructions 2 to 8 for the remaining cutting units.
CAUTION
Be careful when you check blades to prevent pinching hands and fingers.
WARNING
Never try to correct or repair a damaged blade. Always replace a damaged blade.
The bends, grooves or cracks can cause a piece of the blade to become loose and be discharged from
the mower. The broken blade pieces can cause injury to persons or property damage.
