The following sections detail the basic site preparation requirements for
chiller installation. For more information, refer to the documentation
provided by the chiller manufacturer.
2.12.5.1. Choosing the chiller location
Install the chiller in a cool and clean location. It should be within 15m
(50ft) of the scanner(s) it is to serve.
A cooler environment increases the heat transfer from the condenser fins
and minimizes the compressor work load. This will increase the life of the
chiller.
Condenser fins should be kept clean with ongoing preventive
maintenance to maximize heat transfer and minimize compressor work.
This will increase the chiller lifetime. Place Chillers in clean locations to
prevent dust buildup on the condenser fins.
2.12.5.2. Connecting the chiller to the Precision Platform
External coolant sources connect to the Precision Platform by way of hoses
that must be attached to the scanner’s air and coolant supply manifold at
the cable end support. From this manifold, the fluid passes to the heads by
way of the power tracks and the cable end electronics module.
Site preparation must include providing plumbing (1.2-cm/0.5-inch pipe)
from both the fluid source and drain, at approximately floor level, to
approximately 1.5m (5ft) from the planned location of the cable end
support. Limit the pipe run to approximately 15m (50ft). Insulating the
pipe is strongly recommended if its length exceeds 10m (30ft). The piping
should be at approximately floor level and the drain should not be above
the level of the scanner. Refer to the scanner Installation drawings for
more details.
No coolant line hookup is required at the heads as they are pre-plumbed
to the manifold at the factory.
