2.3.2. PrecisionPak Head dimensions

The installation drawings show the Precision Platform width. Head width
depends on pass angle and whether or not there are outboard sensors. The
Precision Platform supports pass angles up to ±30 degrees from the
horizontal for the 4-Pak heads.

Pages in the installation drawings show the ranges of widths for the heads
without outboard sensors. If there are outboard sensors, head width must
be increased. Additional views in the installation drawings show typical
head/outboard sensor configurations at several pass angles. Views and
dimensions of sensor configurations not shown will require Honeywell
engineering assistance.

Mounting pedestals raise the Precision Platform to achieve the correct
passline height and pass angle. The passline dimension is 838mm (33in).
Allow another 1. cm (1/2in) for leveling shims. The recommended
pedestal design is shown in the installation drawings.

Precision Platform beam length is site dependent. The scanner is available
in standard lengths between 4.6 and 8.5m (10 and 28ft). Any beam length
over 8.5m (28ft) is not standard and requires Honeywell engineering
assistance.

The length at a particular site is a function of paper roll width, head and
sensor configuration, and process and environment conditions. For
example, at some sites the combined process and environment heat
produces ambient temperatures in excess of 50°C (140°F). Under these
conditions, a long scanner is appropriate because it will permit
maintenance personnel to work away from the hottest areas when they are
servicing the tending and drive end supports, and also when working on
the heads offsheet. In the installation drawings, it is also important to note

dimensions are important because they indicate the required distance to
stop and reverse the head direction while scanning. For more information,
refer to the scanner installation drawings.
