Except where identified within this section, the scanner does not contain 
hazardous or restricted materials. 

Guidelines for disposal of equipment by Honeywell or the customer for 
scanner-specific materials are outlined in Subsection 10.2.1 and Subsection 
10.2.2. 

10.2.1. Solid 

materials 

•

 

Remove all belts, wheels, and non-metallic parts (except plastic) 
from the scanner and dispose through the local refuse system. 
Recycle plastic parts. 

•

 

Remove and recycle wire and cabling; the copper may have 
value as scrap. 

•

 

Recycle (or handle as special waste) the Electrical and electronic 
components - for example, solder, circuit boards, batteries, and 
oil-filled capacitors. Do not send them to landfill, as there is 
potential for lead and other metals leaching into the ground and 
water. 

•

 

Recycle metals. In many cases they have value as scrap - for 
example, beams, enclosures, mounting and retraction 
components, fasteners and hardware. 

10.2.2. 

Disposal of radioactive sources 

•

 

Contact Radiological operations and they will advise and 
facilitate safe disposal. 

10.3. 

Storing radioactive sources  

If a sensor head containing a radioactive source has to be stored for a 
period of time before it can be mounted on the scanner, it must be placed 
in an area to which access is controlled by licensed personnel. This 
generally means that the sensor head must be stored in a locked room or 
cabinet. If storage will be for a period of weeks or months, arrangements 
often can be made to have Honeywell store the sensor. Contact Honeywell
