2.3.3. Clearance requirements
Various types of clearance space must be provided:
•
Beam Cover Removal
•
Door swings at both ends of the scanner
•
Service access for the scanner and adjacent equipment
•
Roll removal and retract paths for adjacent rolls
•
Rope runs or belts
•
Threading conveyors
Space must be provided above the scanner to allow removal of the beam
covers. The beam covers are removable to allow easy inspection and
repair of the Power track and other components. Additionally, for scanner
cleaning, the beam covers can be removed and pressure-washed remotely
from the scanner. This is especially useful if the scanner is located near a
size press or coater and subject to occasional splatter.

CAUTION
:
Do not use pressure washers on beam covers while installed on the
scanner as this may allow water or contaminants into the sensor
heads.
In cases where the doors lack enough clearance to swing fully open, the
distant-end door can be reversed to hinge on the opposite side or removed
by lifting the door off the hinges, enabling better access. The cable end
clamshell doors can also be removed by lifting the doors off the hinges if
needed.
WARNING
:
The doors provide a barrier to the working components of the
scanner’s drive mechanism and should be opened only by qualified
personnel familiar with the operation of the scanner.
Space must be provided not only for the scanner and servicing the
scanner, but also for equipment and servicing the equipment around the
scanner. This includes servicing and removal of rolls near the scanner.
