The RS-232 menu allows access to the submenus used to set the parameters for the
serial port, the ATM text format, and the communication protocol for a remote port.

The Configure Serial submenu allows you to set the RS-232 port communications
protocol. Both low-level configurations, such as baud, parity and data format, and
high level configurations, such as the ATM interface and network address are set here.

information. The Configuration line may be set to User or Auto.

Set to ”Auto” to have system automatically configure the protocol of the RS232 port
(Note: this will operate properly only when you have connected your system to an
ATM interface). The unit will enter the proper settings into this menu.

To set the RS-232 protocol automatically:
• Select “Auto” in the Configuration line.
• Press the PROG. button
• The unit will enter the values automatically in the menu; this may take several

passes.

• The value “User” will be displayed in the menu after auto-configuring is complete.

Important Note:
• If the value “Auto” continues to be displayed in the menu after several passes,

the unit is not able to automatically configure the protocol values. In this case,
you will need to set the values manually. Press the PROG. button, so that you
can select “User” in the Configuration line and then enter all the other values in
this menu.
