Go to the Tape Management submenu and select “Yes” for the Enable Tape
Management line.
1.
Press the REC button.
2.
The unit will begin rewinding.
3.
As it rewinds, the message “Tape Management Validation” will appear on the
screen.
4.
When the unit reaches Beginning of Tape (BOT) it will go into the PLAY mode.
Note:
When BOT is reached, the unit automatically performs a head-cleaning
operation. This operation takes about 15 to 20 seconds, and ensures the best quality
imagery.
5.
At this point it reads any validation information written to BOT.
6.
If the tape does not meet the requirements of validation (protect period expired,
maximum passes exceeded, group number different from parameter set in
menu), an error message “Invalid, Press STOP” will be displayed at the bottom
of the screen.
7.
The following message will be displayed in the center of the screen:
Tape Mgmt Validation
Group: 1
Passes: 20
8.
The Group Number and number of Passes shown above will be those values
that have been previously written in the validation information at BOT.
9.
At this point, you will not be able to record. You have three options to correct
the situation:
•
Go to the Tape Management submenu, set Enable Override to “Yes”, and
proceed as in the previous example.
•
Go to the Tape Management submenu and set the Group Number and
Number of Passes lines to agree with those shown on the screen.
•
Go to the Tape Management submenu and set the Protect Period to a
number of days sufficient to validate the tape.
While you are using the Tape Management System, the unit will execute the tape
validation routines discussed previously in this section. If, at any time during the tape
validation process, the unit receives a hard alarm, the Tape Management System will
be immediately disabled.
When this occurs, you may not use the Tape Management System until the hard alarm
has been processed. You must then eject and reinsert the tape before you can begin the
tape validation again.
If the Tape Management System is enabled, you must perform a tape validation before
you can use the Timer Program. After the tape validation has been completed, you must
press the STOP button. You may then press the TIMER button to begin timer
programming.
When the Override is enabled and the tape being validated does not meet the validation
requirements, you will see the message “Invalid, Press REC/STOP”.
If you leave the unit unattended with this message on the screen, after 5 minutes the unit
will automatically go into the Record Mode, just as if you had pressed the REC button.
