Following are examples of typical Tape Management System operation; one with the
Enable Override line of the Tape Management submenu set to “Yes” and the other with
Enable Override set to “No”.
Go to the Tape Management submenu and select “Yes” for the Enable Tape
Management line.
1.
Press the REC button.
2.
The unit will begin rewinding.
3.
As it rewinds, the message “Tape Management Validation” will appear on the
screen.
4.
When the unit reaches Beginning of Tape (BOT) it will go into the PLAY mode.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
When BOT is reached, the unit automatically performs a
head-cleaning operation. This operation takes about 15 to 20 seconds, and
ensures the best quality images.
5.
At this point it reads any validation information written to BOT.
6.
If the tape does not meet the requirements of validation (protect period expired,
maximum passes exceeded, group number different from parameter set in menu),
an error message “Invalid, Press REC/STOP” will be displayed at the bottom of the
screen.
7.
If you want to override, and record onto the tape anyway, press REC.
8.
The unit will begin rewinding and display the message “Tape Mgmt Prepare
Tape”.
9.
When the tape reaches BOT, you will see the message “Tape Mgmt Control Track”.
10. The unit will then write new validation information.
Enable Override
- After the validation process, if a tape does not meet the validation
requirements, you will receive one of two error messages:
• Invalid, Press STOP (if the tape is invalid and Enable Override is set to “No”), or
• Invalid, Press REC/STOP (if the tape is invalid and Enable Override is set to Yes”).
When either message appears, you will not be allowed to record. If Enable Override is
set to “Yes”, you may ignore the error message and record over the tape.
Group Number
- This option allows you to identify from 1 to 7 group numbers, or to
turn “Off” the Group Number identification. The group number is set by the user and
can refer to a bank number, an arbitrary group of tapes number, etc. Note that if you
select “Off” for the group number, the group number will not be checked during the
validation process, that is, it will be not be used as a criterion during the Validation
process.
If the tape is found to be invalid because the group number set in the Group Number
line of the Tape Management submenu does not match the group number on the tape,
and if Enable Override is set to “No”, the following message will be displayed in the
center of the screen:
Tape Mgmt Validation
Group: 1 (or number set)
Passes: 20
Note: If “Invalid, Press REC/
STOP” is displayed at the
bottom of the screen, express
REC button if you wish to
override the Validation process
or press STOP if you do not
wish to override the Validation
process.
