Tape Management
Exit
Enable Tape Mgmt.: No
Protect Period Days: 90
Number Of Passes: 20
Enable Override: Yes
Group Number: 1
Notes:
The Tape Management submenu provides access to the Tape Management System
features of the recorder.
The following parameters may be set in the Tape Management submenu:
Enable Tape Mgmt
-This option enables the Tape Management System when set to
“Yes”; the default is “No”. To start tape management, insert a tape, set to “Yes”, and
press the REC button. With tape management enabled, the validation information
recorded at the BOT is always read and validated before the unit goes into the record
mode. When the REC button is pressed, the VCR rewinds to BOT and temporarily goes
into PLAY mode to read the validation information at the BOT.
If set to “No” and the REC button is pressed, the VCR will immediately enter RECORD
mode and the Validation process will not be performed.
Protect Period Days
- This option allows you to set the number of days that you want
the tape to be maintained. The range is from 1 to 185 days; the default setting is 90. For
example, if this option is set to 30, then the tape may not be overwritten for 30 days
(unless you use the Tape Override feature described below). When using a new tape,
the period of days is calculated using the current date set under the Time/Date
submenu. When using a previously recorded tape, the period of days is calculated from
the date displayed while in the PLAY mode during the validation process.
Number of Passes
- This option allows you to set the maximum number of passes (times
the tape may be recorded over). Overuse of tapes can lead to poor recording quality,
tape breakage, and damage to the VCR. To avoid this, it is recommended that you
follow these guidelines when setting the Number of Passes value:
RECOMMENDED MAXIMUM PASSES
Tape Speed

50
18-72
20
120-168

If the tape is found to be invalid because the maximum number set in the Number of
Passes line of the Tape Management submenu has been exceeded, and if Enable
Override is set to “No”, the following message will be displayed in the center of the
screen:
