Configuration Worksheets
When you configure a shelf of UAS 7626 DIUs to operate with one or more NIUs, it is vital to
coordinate the Highway and DS0 assignments, which you make in Circuit Configuration. You
need to make sure that you don’t assign any DS0 to more than one DIU. You also need to take
into account the way that DS0 assignments are affected by the data rates that you set in Unit
Configuration: a loop operating at 64 kbps employs one DS0, and a loop operating at 128 kbps
employs two DS0s.
This chapter provides two configuration worksheets to help you keep track of this important
information: Table 5-3 for installations with UAS 7001 NIUs, and Table 5-4 for installations with
UAS 7002 NIUs. The tables are located at the end of this chapter.
Each worksheet table represents the DS0/timeslot assignments for one data highway and the NIU
that it serves. An NIU is dedicated to one data highway, and the individual loops of an UAS 7626
DIU can be divided among highways and NIUs as required:
A T1 UAS 7001 NIU can support between 12 loops (all operating at 128 kbps) and 24 loops
(all operating at 64 kbps).
An E1 UAS 7002 NIU can support between 16 loops (all operating at 128 kbps) and 31
loops (all operating at 64 kbps).
The following procedure describes how to use the worksheets:
1.
Make photocopies of the worksheet you need to use. Each worksheet has spaces for plan-
ning the assignments for two NIUs, so make two copies if you are employing four NIUs
and all four backplane data highways of a shelf (or pair of shelves).
The following steps all address how to complete a single worksheet table. Figure 5-3
presents examples of worksheet table entries.
