Configuration Worksheets
When you configure a group of UAS 7616 DIUs to operate with an NIU, it is vital to coordinate
their Highway and DS0 assignments, which you make in Circuit Configuration. You need to
assign all the DIUs to the same Highway and to make sure that you don’t assign any DS0 to more
than one DIU. You also need to take into account the way that DS0 assignments are affected by
the data rates that you set in Unit Configuration.
This manual provides two configuration worksheets to help you keep track of this important
information: Table 4-1 for installations with the UAS 7001 NIU, and Table 4-2 for installations
with the UAS 7002 NIU. The tables are located at the end of this chapter.
The following procedure describes how to use the worksheets:
1.
Make photocopies of the worksheet you need to use, one copy for each NIU in your system.
The backplane data highways of a shelf (or pair of shelves) can support up to four NIUs,
each with its own group of DIUs (up to four DIUs with a T1 UAS 7001 NIU, up to five
with an E1 UAS 7002).
The following steps all address how to complete a single worksheet. Figure 4-3 presents an
example of a completed worksheet.
2.
Fill in the Slot column to identify the physical location of each unit that is to be configured.
3.
Fill in the Highway box on the NIU line. There must be only one NIU assigned to each
highway. When you perform Circuit Configuration for the group of DIUs, you must assign
all the active loop channels to the same highway as the NIU.
