2.4 Smoothing
Even when the vessel is sailing in a straight line the track shown on the display looks irregular.
This is due to signal variation of the navaid. To smooth out the irregularity, change the smoothing
factor.
2.4.1 Setting smoothing
The default smoothing is 00 (no smoothing). To change the smoothing factor to 05, for example,
do the following:
1. Press [MENU], [2], and [5] to display the Common Function menu, and select Page 1.
2. Press
[↓]
or
[↑]
to select Smoothing.
3. Enter smoothing factor with the numeric keys and press the [ENT] key. To enter 05, for
example, press [0], [5], [ENT].
4. Press the [MENU] key several times to close the menu.
2.4.2 More about smoothing
In the figure below, a wide hatched arrow shows ship's track and the position fed from the
navigator by black dots. If no smoothing is applied, the track shown on the display will look
irregular due to signal variation.
