5.4 Air Flow/Air Velocity Test
In the
Air Flow
test, the air velocity is measured at four points, at the center of each of the four
quadrants of the mattress. This coincides with the positions of Tb - Te for the temperature tests.
The
Air Flow Sensor
is held in place on the large black thermal mass (the Puck) using magnets.
Note:
Remove the Protective Cap from the Airflow Sensor body to expose the sensor
prior to attempting any measurements.
When the test first starts, there is a delay to allow the sensor to acclimatize to the temperature of the
incubator, Figure 50. Following the delay, the program will prompt to have the sensor placed at the
first position, T2, and the
OK
button will be enabled. When instructed, move the
Air Flow
Sensor
to the position indicated in the instruction screen, Figure 51. Note that, in an
Autosequence, the
Air Flow
test is performed before any temperature tests. This avoids loss of
heat while the Sensor is moved from one position to another. During this test, it is best to operate
the incubator at its minimum air temperature so that any temperature tests start with the incubator
baby compartment at a temperature as close to ambient as possible.
