12. Remove the accelerator pedal (1) from the vehicle (Figure 5-9, Page 5-6).
13. Inspect all parts for wear and damage and replace as necessary.
ACCELERATOR PEDAL INSTALLATION
1. If the accelerator pivot rod supports were replaced, position the supports (21) on the vehicle frame and
install the four bolts (22), flat washers (8) and lock nuts (15). Finger tighten nuts at this time (Figure 5-
9, Page 5-6).
2. Insert lower end of accelerator pedal (1) through floorboard and install accelerator pivot rod (6) through
uppermost hole in pedal. Insert bolt (4) through lower hole in pedal and through pivot rod (6). Install two
washers (25), and nut (23) onto bolt. Finger tighten nut (Figure 5-9, Page 5-6).
3. Install plastic spacer (20) on pivot rod (Figure 5-9, Page 5-6).
4. Insert the pivot rod through the pivot rod supports (21) on the vehicle frame (Figure 5-9, Page 5-6).
5. Tighten four bolts (22) (Figure 5-9, Page 5-6) attaching pivot rod supports to frame to 75 in-lb (8.5
N·m).
6. Install the ball stud (16) through the pivot rod (6). Install the spring retainer onto the boss of the pivot
rod plate. Secure these parts with nut (10) (Figure 5-9, Page 5-6). Tighten nut to 50 in-lb (5.5 N·m).
7. Install spacer (24) and nylon lock nut (26) (Figure 5-9, Page 5-6) on the pivot rod. Tighten the nut to 18
ft-lb (24.5 N·m).
8. Install the accelerator rod assembly (17, 18 and 19) (Figure 5-9, Page 5-6).
9. Adjust the accelerator pedal and accelerator rod. See Accelerator Pedal Adjustment on page 5-3.
