gasket to case with cap screws in the lower four holes.
T orque to 40 lbs. ft.
11. Assem ble countershaft rear bearing cap (14) and shim
pack (15) to case with cap screws and lock washers. T o r­
que to 40 lbs. ft.
12. C heck bearing preload of countershaft roller bearings.
A dd or rem ove shims (15) behind rear bearing cap to se­
cure zero end play w ithout preload. Shaft should roll free
to slight drag of 2-3 pounds pull with cord w rapped a r­
ound 2nd or 4th speed gear.
13. A fter adjustm ent is made, remove rear bearing cap
and coat I.D. & O .D . of shim pack with gasket cem ent to
give good oil seal. Secure rear bearing cap with cap
screws and lock washers and torque to 40 lbs. ft.
14. Rem ove drive gear bearing cap (5), Figure 2.
MAINSHAFT (Figure 4)
NOTE: Lubricate all mainshaft free running
gear bearing bores with light grease as gears
are assembled to mainshaft.
C A U T IO N : D o not p lu g oil holes w ith grease.
1. Position m ainshaft (1) vertically in vise, using soft
jaw s to clam p on the output splines.
2. Assem ble 2nd speed gear (2) to m ainshaft, with clutch
teeth down.
3. Insert new lock pin inside 4th speed gear fluted sleeve
(3).
4. W ith flanged end of sleeve (3), down align lock pin
with spline of m ainshaft and tap or press, if neces-
