crankcase.
PISTON A N D C O N N E C T IN G ROD
REMOVAL
ATTENTION: Mark connecting rod with grease
pencil for alignment marks before disassembly
(fig. 15). These alignment marks will enable
proper assembly.
Turn crankshaft so th at one connecting rod is at bot­
tom of stroke. Remove nuts from connecting rod
bolts, remove bearing cap and bearing inserts; then
lift piston and connecting rod through top of
crankcase. T em porarily install bearing cap on con­
necting rod from which it was removed. Loosely in­
stall nuts on bolts.
Position other connecting rod at bottom of stroke by
turning crankshaft. Rem ove connecting rod as in Step
1 previously.

1. Rem ove piston pin lock from inside of piston pin by
using 1 / 16-inch diam eter wire, then press piston pin
out of piston and connecting rod.
2. Remove com pression and oil rings from piston, using
a conventional piston ring expander.

1. Remove piston pin snap rings from piston assembly
(fig. 14). Press piston pin out of piston and connect­
ing rod.
2. Remove compression and oil rings from piston, using
a conventional piston ring expander.
CRANKSHAFT BEARING CAP
REMOVAL
1. Remove four bolts which secure each bearing cap to
crankcase.
2. T ap bearing caps lightly and remove.
3 Press oil seal out of front bearing cap.
4. Discard bearing cap gaskets.
