ENGINE MOUNTINGS
DESCRIPTION
Cushion-type mountings are used at all engine
mounting points. A single front mount is used with
all six cylinder gasoline engines; whereas, dual
front mounts are used with all other engines.
The various types of mountings are illustrated
in figures 1 through 6.
GENERAL M AINTENANCE
Engine mountings should be inspected period­
ically and if found damaged or deteriorated they
should be replaced.
IM P O R T A N T : Broken or deteriorated mounts
can cause misalignment and eventual destruction
of certain drive train components. Also, when a
single mounting failure occurs, the remaining
mounts are subjected to abnormally high stresses.
When inspecting engine mounts, check all at­
taching bolts and nuts for tightness. Refer to Torque
Chart shown below.
M O U N T IN G CUSHION REPLACEMENT
IM P O R T A N T : When supporting engine to re­
place a mount, raise engine only to height required
to replace the mount. If raised beyond this height,
possible damage to wiring, lines and control link­
age could occur.
N O T E : When replacing either front mount on
6V-53 Diesel engine in a conventional cab model,
the mounting bolts should be removed from either
the upper or lower side of the opposite mount.
This will permit engine to be raised and supported
without tilting.
