N O T E : Left support can be removed from cab
if desired.
INSTALLATION OF CAB
1. Install lifting sling and chainfall to cab
with doors slightly open (fig. 28).
2. Raise cab and install support (if previously
removed) loosely to cab left sill brackets.
N O T E : Cab tilt torsion bar, check link, and
right cab to sill support should be in position on
chassis as shown in lower view of figure 31.
3. Raise cab over chassis and lower into posi
tion, forward slightly to clear shift control panel,
then back and down.
4. Position steering gear coupling and cab left
support onto torsion bar and install cap with two
bolts; torque bolts to 35-50 foot-pounds.
5. Install check link retaining clevis pin with
cotter pin (A, fig. 29). Install bolt (C, fig. 29) into
rear hole of cab right sill brackets and support.
6. Insert a pry bar in between cab right sup
port and cab sill.
7. With two assistants, one holding pry bar
TILT CAB TORSION
N O T E : A chain hoist and a lifting sling are
required to properly replace cab torsion bar as
the weight of cab must be removed from bar. Also,
the aid of one or more assistants is also recom
mended.
N O T E : Instructions below pertain to cab re
placement procedures when cab is tilted (approx
imately 45 degrees) and suspended safely there,
with weight of cab removed from chassis.
R E M O V A L
1. Secure hoist sling at rear of door openings.
N O T E : A chain from hoist hook, down over rear
center of cab and attached to cab rear hold-down
catch will assist in maintaining cab safely at a 45
degree angle.
IM P O R T A N T : Protect top of cab from damage
by hoist equipment.
2. Remove weight of cab from chassis.
3. Remove two retaining bolts from mounting
cap at torsion bar right frame bracket and from
support cap left support.
4. Remove bolt, nut, and washers which at
tach torsion bar anchor lever to cab mounting left
frame bracket. Remove arm from bar and bracket.
5. Loosen cap screw which clamps cab right
mounting bracket to right end of torsion bar.
6. Slide torsion bar from cab right frame
bracket, then slide bar in opposite direction from
cab left support.
and the other helping to tilt cab forward (approx
imately 45 degrees), install the three remaining
bolts, lock washers, and nuts (B, fig. 29) in the
right cab support and sill brackets. Use pry bar
to align bolt holes. Torque bolt nuts to 40-50 foot
pounds.
8. Tighten steering coupling clamp bolt to 15-
22
foot-pounds torque. Connect speedometer cable
and aii electric connectors that junction with the
cab-to-chassis.
9. Connect accelerator linkage and adjust as
outlined under E N G IN E F U E L S Y S T E M (SEC. 6M ).
Connect all ground straps.
10. Connect brake lines and hoses. Bleed the
brakes as outlined under "H Y D R A U L IC B R A K E S ”
(SEC. 5A) if equipped with hydraulic brakes.
11. Connect clutch flexible line and bleed as
outlined under " C L U T C H C O N T R O L S " (SEC. 7D).
12. Connect heater hoses and fill radiator.
Connect battery ground strap.
13. Install bumper to front of frame. If vehicle
is equipped with air brakes, connect air lines.
N O T E : Check cab tilting and locking action;
adjust if necessary.
BAR REPLACEMENT
C A U T IO N : Do not hammer on end of bar.
IN S T A L L A T IO N
1. Before replacement of torsion bar, inspect
frame brackets (castings) and cab supports (cast
ings) for cracks. D O N O T W E L D O R B R A ZE
B R A C K E T S. If cracked, replace.
2. Prelubricate left frame bracket opening and
right frame bracket. Slide hex end of torsion bar
into left frame bracket, then insert opposite end
into cab right support.
