7.10 Possible failures of the hydraulic power steering and instructions for

troubleshooting

The list of possible failures of the hydraulic power steering and instructions for their

troubleshooting are given in Table 7.10.1.

Table 7.10.1

Failure,

external manifestation, cause

Troubleshooting

Great effort at the steering wheel

Oil foaming in hydraulic power

steering system due to the following

causes:

- insufficient oil volume in hydraulic

power steering body

- air in HPS hydraulic system

Fill the hydraulic power steering body with oil up to

the required level

Check the suction line and eliminate the loss of

tightness

No pressure or insufficient pressure

in the steering control charge hy-

draulic line (it shall be from 8.5 to

9.5 MPa when turning the steering

wheel against the stop) due to the

following reasons:

- faulty adjustment of dosing pump

safety valve (low pressure)

- faulty feed pump (the pump does

not develop pressure due to low

volume efficiency)

Adjust the safety valve for the required pressure

Contact the dealer. The pump does not develop

pressure due to low volume efficiency.

Sticking in the mesh “worm – quad-
rant”

Adjust the mesh

Wobbling of steered wheels during travel

Loosened worm nut

Tighten the nut of the worm
