3.3.4.3 Mechanical gear unit
Mechanical gear unit consists of drive gear 19 (figure 3.3.4), driven gear 9, planetary gear
16, intermediate double-crown gear 13 and synchronizer 2. Drive gear of the reverse-reduction
gear 19 is mounted in cantilever fashion on splines of output shaft 18. Bearing of output shaft 18 is
roller bearing 17, located in cover 20, which is mounted in the clutch casing 12 boring and is se-
cured to it by bolts. Reverse-reduction gear driven gear 9 is mounted on a smooth neck journal of
the front cantilever of GB Primary shaft 8 and can rotate freely on the roller bearing. Gear 8 is in
constant mesh with big ring of intermediate gear 13. Planetary gear 16, mounted freely on axis 14
on the roller bearing, is in constant mesh with drive gear 19 and smaller ring of intermediate gear
13 of the reverse-reduction gear. Planetary gear axis 14 is located in the boring of cover 20 and is
locked when rotated by pin 15. Intermediate gear of the reverse-reduction gear 13 is mounted GB
on front pocket 11 on two roller bearings.
Between drive gear 19 and driven gear 9 of the reverse-reduction gear synchronizer 2 is
mounted, which moveable carriage always has connection to GB primary shaft 8 through spline
bushing 7. Bevel rings of synchronizer 2 and cones welded to drive 19 and driven 9 gears form
friction pairs of synchronization node.
3.3.4.4 Reverse-reduction gear control
Reverse-reduction gear control consists of roller with fork 4 (figure 3.3.4) and reverse-
reduction gear cover 1.
Roller 4, into the slot of the fork of which hub disc of synchronizer 2 goes, can shift
freely along the axis in the hole of cup 6 of primary shaft 8. There are two transverse slots on
roller 4, into which spring-loaded locking ball 5 goes. Slots provide roller 4 and fork connected
to it with two fixed positions.
Movement of roller with fork 4 is carried by means of small lever 3, shifting of which
through parallelogram mechanism 21 of the reverse-reduction gear cover 1 is coordinated with
shifting of reverse-reduction gear control lever 22. Reverse-reduction gear cover 1 is mounted
on the upper plane of clutch casing and is secured to it by bolts.
3.3.4.5 Reverse-reduction gear operation
Reverse-reduction gear control is carried out by means of reverse-reduction gear con-
trol lever 22 (figure 3.3.4) in accordance with the diagram. Reverse-reduction control lever 22
is brought into tractor cabin and is located by the operator’s left hand
To shift from reverse movement to forward, the operator shifts reverse-reduction control
lever 22 forward from himself. Control force will cause the movement of synchronizer 2 carriage
forward. Having started to move, it disconnects reverse-reduction gear driven gear 9 and GB pri-
mary shaft 8. Further action of the control force will cause actuation of friction bevel gear and pin-
ion, which is formed by synchronizer 2 bevel ring and reverse-reduction gear drive gear 19 cone.
After equalizing rates of angular rotation of primary shaft 8 and output shaft 18, carriage of syn-
chronizer 2 will shift forward and will connect primary 8 and output 18 shafts. In this case toothed
gears of reverse-reduction gear do not participate in the transformation of power flow.
To shift from the forward movement to reverse, the operator shifts reverse-reduction gear
control lever 22 backwards towards himself. Control force will cause shift of synchronizer 2 car-
riage forward. Having started to move it disconnects reverse-reduction gear driven gear 9 and GB
primary shaft 8. Further action of control force will cause actuation of frictional bevel gear and pin-
ion, which is formed by bevel ring of synchronizer 2 and reverse-reduction gear driven gear 9
cone. After equalizing rates of angular rotation of primary shaft 8 and driven gear of reverse-
reduction gear 9, carriage of synchronizer 2 will shift further and connect GB primary shaft 8 with
reverse-reduction gear driven gear 9. In this case power flow from output shaft 18 to GB primary
shaft 8 transmits through sequential engagement of gears 19, 16, 13 and 9.
Synchronizer 2 ensures smooth and bumpless shifting of the reverse-reduction gear.
Shifting of the reverse-reduction gear is carried out on any GB gear and only after full stop
of the tractor.
Neutral position of synchronizer 2 carriage is not provided in the reverse-reduction gear,
that is why either forward movement or reverse movement is always engaged in the reverse-
reduction gear.
