Shared VLAN
This divides the PON interface
into multiple multicast domains.
The links in this mode and
having the same VLAN tag
belong to the same multicast
group. The OLT adds a network
VLAN tag and forwards a
upstream frame whether it has
a VLAN tag or not. The OLT also
learns the source MAC address
of the upstream frames.
The OLT removes the network
VLAN tag from the downstream
frames before forwarding them
to the corresponding links. If
the downstream frame's
destination address is not found
in the MAC table, the OLT
broadcasts it to all links in the
same shared VLAN group.
Double Tagged
Shared VLAN
This divides the PON interface
into multiple multicast domains.
The links in this mode and
having the same VLAN tag
belong to the same multicast
group. The OLT preserves the
customer-defined VLAN tag
carried in the upstream frames
(if any) and adds a network
VLAN tag and forwards a
upstream frame. The OLT also
learns the source MAC address
of the upstream frames.
The OLT removes the network
VLAN tag from the downstream
frames before forwarding them
to the corresponding links. If
the downstream frame's
destination address is not found
in the MAC table, the OLT
broadcasts it to all links in the
same shared VLAN group.
Transparent VLAN
The OLT forwards any upstream
frame whether it has a VLAN
tag or not. The OLT does not
learn the source MAC address
of the upstream frames.
The OLT forwards downstream
frames based on their VLAN
tags without modification and
drops the downstream frames
that do not have a VLAN tag.
Translated VLAN
The OLT maps the LLID and
customer VLAN tag carried in
the upstream frames to a new
unique VLAN tag and forwards
them. The OLT drops untagged
upstream or downstream
frames.
When the OLT receives a tagged
downstream frame, the OLT
decides to which link the frame
should be forwarded, replaces
the VLAN tag with the original
customer VLAN tag and then
forwards it. The OLT drops
untagged upstream or
downstream frames.
Prioritized VLAN
The OLT strips the customer-
defined VLAN tag carried in the
upstream frames (if any) and
adds a network VLAN tag before
forwarding them. If the
upstream frames carry multiple
VLAN tags, the OLT removes
the outermost one.
The OLT removes the network
VLAN tag from the tagged
downstream frames and
forwards them to the
corresponding links according
to the VLAN IDs and priority
values. The OLT drops
downstream frames that do not
have a VLAN ID or priority
value.
