Internal damages are the leading cause
o f m a n y w i r e r o p e f a i l u r e s , w h i c h a r e
mainly due to corrosion and normal fatigue.
The routine external inspection may not
be able to find the extent of the internal
damages, which is still so even if fracture
risk is coming.

d. Wire rope section in balance pulley;
e. Any section with wear due to external
factors;
f. Wire rope internal part with corrosion and
fatigue, such as wire rope internal lubrication state,
corrosion degree, wear signs and broken wire due
to the extrusion or wear etc.;
g. Wire rope section in thermal environment
5. Scrap standard
The wire rope safety use is determined by following
factors:

a. Nature and quantity of broken wire;
b. Broken wire at the end;
c. Broken wire local accumulation;
d. Broken wire increasing rate;
e. Strand fracture;
f. Rope diameter decrease, including conditions
due to rope core damages;
g. Elasticity reduction;
h. External and internal wear;
i. External and internal corrosion;
j. Deformation;
k. Damages due to the effect of heating or
electric arc;
l. Permanent elongation.
All inspections shall take into account
t h e a b o v e v a r i o u s f a c t o r s a s r e c o g n i z e d
specific standards. But the wire rope damage
is usually by a variety of comprehensive
factors, governors should judge the reason and
make decision whether the steel wire rope is
scrapped or continuously used according to the
