• Stop/Restart Device Manager Service command on the Actions menu in the
Media and Device Management window. This command displays a dialog
box with options for starting, stopping, or stopping and restarting the
service on a selected host.
NetBackup Volume Manager Service
The NetBackup Volume Manager service (
vmd
) finds volumes when
NetBackup needs them for a backup or restore. For example, if a volume is in a
robot, the NetBackup Volume Manager service informs the NetBackup Device
Manager service so the volume can be mounted.
NetBackup Client Service
The NetBackup Client service listens for connections from other NetBackup
servers and clients in the network and when a connection is made, starts the
necessary NetBackup programs.
Performing Manual Backups
You can perform a manual backup for an entire class, selected clients, or
selected automatic backup schedules.
A manual backup is useful for situations such as:
• Testing a configuration
• When workstations miss their regular backups
• Before installing new software (to preserve the old configuration)
• Preserving records before a special event such as when companies split or
merge
• Quarterly or yearly financial information
• In some cases, it is useful to create a class and schedule to use only for
manual backups. You can do this by creating it with a single schedule that
has no backup window (and therefore never executes automatically).
To perform a manual backup:
1. In the NetBackup Administration window, click Backup Policy
Management.
