OPC Configuration and Operation
OPC (OLE for Process Control) is a communication standard based on Microsoft’s OLE
(Object Linking and Embedding) technology that fosters greater interoperability
between automation/control applications, field systems/devices, and business/office
applications. OPC defines standard objects, methods, and properties of a client/server
methodology for real-time information transfer.
OPC runs on top of OLE/DCOM, where DCOM stands for Distributed Common Object
Model. DCOM provides built-in features that ensure OPC clients and servers have a
robust and reliable mechanism to exchange real-time information across a network. A
full explanation of DCOM, and the associated settings that need to be made, are
beyond the scope of this manual. Most communication issues that arise between OPC
clients and servers are due to incorrect DCOM settings.
Since the IsoAir 310P particle sensor is not a Windows platform, you may need to enter
a manual registration for the IsoAir 310P OPC server on the computer where the client
application will run (dependent on the OPC client). A Windows registry update file is
available. Contact Particle Measuring Systems for assistance.
The IsoAir 310P particle sensor with the OPC option in use provides an OPC Data
Access interface. Only version 2.05a of the “Data Access Custom Interface Standard
Specification” is supported. Version 1.00 and 3.00 are not supported.
As outlined in
Chapter 3 Configuring for Facility Net
in addition to the TCP/IP
settings, you will need to configure the sample interval to be run (as required by the
OPC interface).
