Use the UP and DOWN arrows, or the SCRUB-WHEEL, to select a beep to hear
and the ENTER key to begin it. Select [Close] to exit this screen without carrying
out any tests, or once you have finished.
B.1.4. Checking the RS232 port
To check whether the RS232 port is working correctly, you’ll need to connect the
Courier, via RS232, to a PC (using Hyper Terminal, or Procomm), or some other
communications device. In the RS232 test mode, any characters sent to the Courier
over RS232 are displayed on the screen and also echoed back to the sending
device. Select [RS232 Test] :
The current settings for the port are displayed, in the above case a baud rate of
19200 bps, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit and no parity.
When a character is echoed, it is displayed on the screen, and also retransmitted
back to the sender, for example if “m” is transmitted :
If no characters are shown, then check the cable connection, and ensure that the
settings of the serial port are the same at the transmitter.
To leave this screen, press and hold the ENTER button, or the MENU button, for a
couple of seconds.
B.1.5. Setting the BATT/DISK button to be
latching
If you are carrying out prolonged tests on the battery system or disk usage, this
option is useful so that you can show the battery and disk status permanently on the
display [Latch], instead of only while the button is held down [Momentary].
