Appendix A - upgrading the firmware
A-2 Courier User Handbook
2.
If you don’t have a PCMCIA slot, you can use the Courier Configuration
Manager software to copy a firmware file from your PC via the PC’s serial
(COM) port. See Chapter 11 - Communications and file transfer, for more
information
IMPORTANT : For the Courier to recognise a firmware file, you must copy it
to the root directory (i.e. the base directory) of the installed PCMCIA card.
A.3. Upgrading the firmware
With the Courier powered off, press and hold the POWER button for
approximately 6 seconds. The Courier loads the “boot-strap” operating system.
This operating system can not run the Courier - it only performs upgrades.
A list of the firmware files will be displayed. If it can’t find any firmware files, then
it means that either the file has been copied to somewhere other than the root
directory, the filename is incorrect, it does not have the .dwn extension, or you have
a faulty PCMCIA disk.
Use the UP and DOWN arrows, or the SCRUB-WHEEL, to choose a firmware file
and the ENTER key to begin the upgrade.
The upgrade begins by erasing the flash devices :
This takes a few seconds. Then the screen changes to show a countdown timer in
the bottom right-hand corner of the display which counts down to 0000 :
It will take approximately one or two minutes to reach zero, at which point the
Courier will beep and display :
