16 Putting the LMA/B into service
16.1 Connecting the voltage supply
Before installing the equipment, please check the equipment label or the data sheet to verify whether
the LMA/B is suitable for your supply voltage and load. Connect the equipment to the supply voltage
and to the outputs of your controller or to your switching relays as shown on the connection table 14.2
and in accordance with your requirements. To prevent false switching, the equipment is fitted with a
readiness delay of approx. 300 msec. Operation readiness is signaled by the status LED lighting up
green. The equipment does not require any preheating or warm-up time.
Note:
Reverse polarity protection prevents damages due to inversion of the polarity of the operating
voltage. Exceeding the supply voltage range or connecting AC voltages to a DC equipment can cause
destruction of the equipment. GmbH accepts no liability for damage or injury caused by incorrect
connection.
Equipments with a semiconductor output (Q1-Q3) indicates detection of the object by switching the
applied operating voltage. Depending on the output function, this is present at the switching outputs of
the equipment. The semiconductor outputs are designed for a maximum load current of 200 mA. If this
is exceeded, the electronic short-circuit protection that protects the outputs against destruction is
triggered. This is indicated by the function LED flashing red. After overloading of the output has been
eliminated, the equipment returns automatically to normal operation. It is not necessary to interrupt the
operating voltage.
16.2 Interface converter
LMA/B needs 24 VDC voltage for parametrization.
You can feed it via the 8-pole S8 plug using the
interface converter and the power supply unit PPS 2
(see 4.5 accessories); to fit interface converter on
the 12-pole S12 plug you also need a cable
adapter. So, connect the power supply PPS 2 to the
interface converter SIC 485U and the interface
converter to the 12-pole plug S12 on the LMA/B
using the cable adapter S12 S4/5-2. On the other
side connect the interface converter to the USB port
of your PC or laptop; to make connection to your PC or laptop easier, a USB cable in 1,5 m length is
included in the supply. The adapter cable for the connection between SIC485U and LMA/B must be
ordered separately (art. 9851M).
Note: the Interface converter SIC 485U does not have galvanic isolation!
