General test information
3.1
Patient consideration
Patient instructions prior to appointment
• The patient should not ingest caffeine or alcohol for 48 hours prior to testing.
• The patient should wear comfortable, loose, appropriate clothing.
• Consult the referring physician to check whether the patient can abstain from
any medications used to control postural sway (platform tests) or medications
with a vestibular suppressant, depressant, or sedative effect (all tests).
• The patient should continue any medications that are considered to be life-sus-
taining such as insulin, heart, seizure, blood pressure, anti-depressant prescrip-
tions.
Patient instructions during the test
• Assure the patient that the test is painless and non-invasive.
• Instruct the patient in how to act during the test and make sure the patient
understands.
• Re-instruct the patient if necessary.
