Ultra v2.0a User Guide
B-5
Note:
The bi-directional ports SDI 1 – 3 (together with SDI 4
on early versions of the
Ultra
with four bi-directional SDI
ports, as illustrated here) are only rated to handle up to 3G SDI,
so when inputting
6G or 12G SDI
, you need to make your
selection among
AUX 1
,
AUX 2
and the
Eye Input
. For 12G,
the Eye Input is generally best: AUX 1 and AUX 2 only work
with 12G input when the input uses the same clock as AUX 3
and AUX 4.
B.1.3 Selecting SDI Outputs
The procedure for creating the list of SDI Output ports to be used follows very much the same
steps as those given above for creating the list of required SDI Input ports. The only differences
are that you create this list in the SDI Outputs block on the right-hand side of the display and that
the range of ports that are offered to choose from is different.
Note:
SDI 1 – 3 (and SDI 4 on early versions of the
Ultra
: see above) are only rated to handle up to
3G SDI, so when outputting
6G or 12G SDI
, you need to make your selection among
SDI 4
(except
on early systems: see above),
AUX 3
and
AUX 4
:
B.1.4 Using the DisplayPort Output
Outputting video through the DisplayPort at video standards such as 4Kp60 that require a higher
bandwidth uses the Multi Stream Transport (MST) feature of DisplayPort 1.2. This typically
results in images being delivered as separate left and right panels.
Unfortunately, DisplayPort monitors vary with regard to which stream is seen as delivering the
left panel and which the right panel. Where the monitor uses the opposite convention to the way
the
Ultra
is configured, the image will be displayed with the right and left panels swapped.
This is readily rectified through the
Swap monitor tiles
option offered in the DP Output ‘box’. If a monitor attached
to the DisplayPort displays the right and left panels
switched, switch the
Swap monitor tiles
to the opposite of
its current setting.
B.1.5 Setting the Output Video Standard
The Output Video Standard used for output delivered via the HDMI output, the DisplayPort output
or the SDI output(s) is set individually for each type of output. The choice of Output Video
Standard made for any one type of output doesn’t restrict in any way the choice made for either of
the other types of output.
Where the
Ultra
’s Analyser/Converter is connected to a particular port, the video standard selected
for that port defines the up/down/cross conversion carried out by the
Ultra
’s Converter unit (see
Section 2: Conversion Facilities
).Where the
Ultra
’s Generator is connected to a particular port,
the video standard selected for that port sets the video standard used to play out the Test Pattern
currently being generated by the Generator (see
Section 5: Generator
).
The overall range of standards supported by the
Ultra
is very broad. So while the
Ultra
maintains lists
of recent selections, standards ultimately need to be picked out through separate selections of:
Interface
format (HDMI, DisplayPort, SDI-SD, SDI-HD etc.).
Raster
size (in pixels & lines)
Refresh
rate (in frames/sec)
Sampling
format and bit depth – covering 8-bit 4:2:2 YCbCr and 10bit/12bit 4:2:2/4:4:4
YCbCr/RGB
