Ultra v2.0a User Guide
W-1
W
: Creating Test Patterns
This section describes the facilities creating material to use as test images/sequences. The
options are:
To create a zone plate
To create line (colour bar) pattern
To create test patterns that combine a zone plate with a still image or a line pattern
This section also describes how to save the test patterns you create.
W.1 Line (Colour Bar) Patterns
Line patterns are simple single-frame colour bar displays, typically generated from industry-
standard colour bar patterns. The frame can be divided into up to 6 horizontal segments, with each
segment containing a different colour bar pattern selected from the choices offered by the
Ultra
.
W.1.1 Adding a New Line Pattern
The
Ultra
offers two routes to creating a line pattern, a general one that can be used to set up any
line pattern you choose to define and another that creates a SMPTE RP219 pattern.
The steps given below create the required line pattern and add a thumbnail for the pattern in the main
part of the screen. The line pattern can then be configured as described below, combined with a zone
plate as described in Section W.3 and played out as described in Section V.2.2 and V.7.
Note:
The pattern you create is automatically saved to the Flash disk on the
Ultra
but is not saved
anywhere else. So after creating the pattern, you may wish to save it to disk (as described in Section
W.4) so that the details of the pattern can be recovered if it is deleted from the display.
To create a colour-bar pattern: General Steps
1.
Click on the
Create Line Pattern
option in the Button Bar.
A thumbnail for the pattern is then added to the selection of available test patterns.
2.
Set a unique name both for the test pattern in the right-hand panel.
(This step is not essential but is strongly recommended.)
3.
Use the other options offered in the right-hand panel as detailed below to create the required
line pattern.
To create a SMPTE RP 219 pattern:
Take the
SMPTE RP219 Pattern
option from the Button Bar.
This adds a ready-made pattern of the correct format to the selection of available test patterns.
