7.9. Calculation formula for mercury weight and concentration
When the sample type is liquid or gas
Mercury weight = Correction using a calibration curve.
Concentration = Mercury weight / Amount of sample
When the sample type is (diluted) liquid
Calculation of diluting solvent
Mercury weight = Correction using a calibration curve.
Concentration = Mercury weight / (Amount of sample x Specific gravity of diluting
solvent)
Calculation of mixed solution
Mercury weight of diluting solvent = Concentration of diluting solvent x (Amount of
sample
x Ratio of diluting solvent x Specific gravity of
mixed solution)
* Ratio of diluting fluid = (Total – Sample) / Total
Mercury weight of diluting solution = Correction using a calibration curve
Mercury weight of sample = Mercury weight of mixed solution
- Mercury weight of diluting solvent
Concentration of sample = Mercury weight of sample / (Amount of sample
x Specific gravity of mixed solution x (Sample / Total)
* With diluting solvent specify “DILUTION BLANK” as the sample name.
When “Reagent Blank” or “Travel Blank” is specified as the sample name, the
mercury weight and concentration of the blank is subtracted from the mercury
weight and concentration of the sample respectively.
If there are two or more blanks, their mean is used.
