Chapter 6: Replacing R100 Disk Shelf Devices
73
Replacing a disk in a disk shelf
Removing a disk from a disk shelf
Removing a disk
To remove a disk, complete the following steps.
Step
Action
1
Enter the following command:
disk swap
It is important to issue the disk swap command only when you have a
disk that you want to physically remove or add to a disk shelf. The
system input/output will stop until a disk is added or removed from
the disk shelf.
Note
The disk swap command quiets the SCSI bus, allowing you to
remove or install the disk from the shelf. If you decide not to replace
the disk, you can use the disk unswap command.
For more information about disk commands, see the Data ONTAP
System Administrator’s Guide.
2
Wait 30 seconds for the disk to stop spinning.
3
Put on the antistatic wrist strap and grounding leash.
4
To remove the disk, press down on its release mechanism. The drive
handle is spring loaded and springs open after you depress the latch.
Gently slide the disk out of the disk shelf.
Caution
When removing a disk, always use two hands to support its weight.
