4.3.2.2 Diesel particulate filter (DPF) – Overview
1 Jacketed DPF system
2 DOC/DPF element
3 Exhaust outlet from DPF
system
4 Externally mounted compo-
nents
5 Wiring harness
6 Exhaust inlet to DPF system
The DPF system reduces particulate emissions by 90 % and more. The CRT (Continuous Regeneration Trap)
effect facilitates the use of a continuously regenerating particulate filter system consisting of an diesel oxida-
tion catalyst (DOC) and a diesel particulate filter (DPF) connected to it. This passive filter regeneration does
not require additional power or additives.
The DPF system is designed to facilitate maintenance. The DPF filter elements can be removed to clean ash,
the DOC filter elements can be removed for visual inspection.
The DPF system is jacketed and insulated to avoid heat loss and minimize surface temperature.
The exhaust sensors and the electrical wiring harness of the DPF system are pre-installed on delivery.
As the exhaust gas aftertreatment system fulfills the function of an exhaust silencer, no additional mounting
space is required in many cases.
The DPF systems are jacketed and include insulation to minimize heat loss and moderate the surface tem-
perature to approx. 200 °C.
