away from base.
5.
Crew Positions.
There are ten crew positions on the aircraft. Only
the Captain’s seat has a full harness. The following positions only have
lap straps: the Nose Gunner, Co-pilot, Navigator, Radio Operator, front
spar seat (adjacent to Radio Operator), Mid Upper Gunner and Tail
Gunner. The Bomb Aimer’s position and crew rest bunk do not have
harnesses. All gunners’ positions are compact thus limiting easy access
and egress. The mid upper turret has a drop down stepping arm to get in
and out making access even more restricted. All guns can be moved in
elevation; both the mid upper and tail gunner’s positions can be rotated,
although they must be locked facing aft for take-off and landing.

Stowage Facilities
. Stowages for the following items are in the
fuselage:
a. A cold box can be secured with straps to the crew rest bunk.
b. Upper escape hatches can be secured to the crew rest bunk and
starboard fuselage wall with straps as required.
c. Crew baggage is stowed under a cargo net attached to purpose
built floor points and lashing points on the sidewall frames.
d. The pitot head cover, VHF aerial cover and two static vent plugs
are stowed aft of the entrance door in a canvas bag fixed to the
fuselage wall along with the crew chief’s long lead and headset. Two
Terry clips, fixed to the port fuselage wall opposite the entrance door,
are used to secure a wooden pole that is used to fit and remove the
pitot head cover.
e. A stowage for the four undercarriage ground locks is in the lower
starboard side of the tail plane section. Care must be taken to ensure
that the struts are stowed correctly, thin end first.
f. Essential servicing items are stowed aboard the aircraft when
required:
